Downly (the desktop app and its browser extension) is built to keep your data on your own computer.
What the extension accesses
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| URLs of downloads you start, links you right-click, and the page you're on when you press a Downly button | So the Downly app can download them | Only to the Downly app on your computer (127.0.0.1) |
| Cookies for the site of a file being downloaded | Some sites only allow downloads while you're logged in | Only to the Downly app on your computer |
| Addresses of video/audio files a page loads | To list “Files found on this page” in the popup | Your browser's session storage, cleared when the tab closes |
| Extension settings (language, button position, hidden sites) | To remember your choices | Stored locally in your browser |
What we don't do
- We do not send your data to our servers or to any third party.
- We do not track your browsing, show ads, or sell data.
- Neither the app nor the extension contains analytics.
Network connections made by the app
The app connects only to the websites you choose to download from, and to GitHub to update its download engine (yt-dlp).
